OPERATIONS

The Cimarron Hills Fire Department operates under the direction of the Fire Chief through the supervision of the Company Officer. The Department is staffed 24 hours a day with a minimum of three highly trained personnel who respond to a variety of incidents within its community and outside its community through mutual aid agreements.

Fire

Fire, when controlled properly, can be a very useful tool in for providing heating, cooking, or other uses. However, when fire gets out of control it becomes extremely dangerous and threatening to society. CHFD responds to a variety of fire related incidents. There are many factors involved with putting out any given fire such as the type of fire, the extent of the fire, and what is actually on fire.

Haz-Mat

Hazardous materials incidents can be very challenging calls. The US Department of Transportation recognizes over 3200 different hazardous substances. Therefore, it is crucial to determine what substance(s) is/are involved in an incident before developing an action plan on mitigating the situation. CHFD works closely with haz-mat teams for most any type of haz-mat situation. CHFD personnel are trained to a minimum of the Operations level to know how to recognize a haz-mat incident and assist with decontamination efforts. Haz-Mat Incident

Traffic Accidents

CHFD responds to a variety of traffic accidents through out the year. Traffic accidents present a unique challenge in that there are a variety of aspects to any given scene. Most often there are injured people needing medical care, there can be stabilization issues, controlling fluid leaks from the vehicles, the hazards of other traffic, and occasionaly the need for extrication. Medical Response

Approximately 74% of CHFD's call volume is for some sort of medical response. All full time personnel and nearly all reserve personnel are certified at a minimum of EMT-Basic with IV authorization. The Department also staffs two Advanced Life Support (ALS) providers who are certified at EMT-Intermediate.
